You could never concentrate the collective wealth of knowledge on SI in your own mind and profit from it - but you can let intelligent agents here all come together and share and in aggregate do some pretty good investing no? Now it is true sometimes you need a little creative destruction to shake things up and reset to a new plateau - in fact if you will read about the history of the first IBM PC this is exactly what was required - a rogue team free from the usual logjam and redtape of regular IBM management all wanting thier paws in the project - but in the case of what I saw - all you needed was a little trimming of weeds to make the grass grow nice and pretty - but those guys dropped a nuclear bomb on thier yard and then wonder why all the grass was dead - so silly - hehe. It was mass hatchet job, when targeted precision sniping would have been far more effective. These people came together in a culture very reinforcing of great expectations - scattered to all thier own pet projects and cut from the hive - I fear productivity has slowed. I think it would be better for these mavericks to be allowed to pursue thier pet projects, but then come together with the other great minds and resources to really put some power behind them - this does not happen when you blow up IBM and create lots of little children eh? What is more useful - the chicken or the 20 eggs it lays? Bill gates stole a lot of pet projects from others and unified them, it took being away from the hive to develop the ideas and start technologies - but you had to have the hive to really get those things in an easy way to the masses in a unified structure. Not too much yin or yang, proper balance. For Example - Say boone pickens says oil is 75 dollars next year, he knows this is the best thing for the most numbers of economic agents, but none of us hear his message, we all stop using cars, oil demand goes to nothing, and they can't give it away free. Pickens was right, had we all come together we would all be better off - unified - united - but instead we were mavericks - we all went off on our own tangents - and instead of taking society up to the next level - we all went down to a lower one. Like in Cuba, instead of going up in standard of living , I read they had to give up all thier cars and walk everywhere now.
