Anyone know if a Taser stun gun would be effective against a bear?

There is an old joke that has much truth to it in that while hiking in bear country you should have pepper spray and wear bells on your shoes to make noise so as to not startle bears. In some areas there are both black bear and grizzly and then it's helpful to be able to identify which is which by their poop so you know if a grizzly is around, black bear skat will be piled high and have an aroma of berries, grizzly will be piled high but will smell like pepper spray and have bells in it:)

Pepper spray is not very effective on a charging grizzly and I would choose the 44 legal or not personally.

They do make pepper spray specifically for bears in Kalispell, MT. It is called "Counter Assault" grizzly tough pepper spray. It is about the size of a Gillette shaving cream can and comes with a belt holster. It fires approx 30 feet. It is sold in local gun stores here.
I carry mine on all hikes.

I doubt they will allow you to take firearms into a National Park.

I carry sidearms concealed in fanny pack quick draw holsters. And I operate on the theory that I'd prefer that discussion to occur over the dead body of an attacking bear than over my dead body.
