When I think of England I always think of "Mayor of Casterbridge" or "Tess" (Hardy novels). The reason I have never been is selfishness, I guess. We get a lot of miserable weather and England (apparently) gets a lot of miserable weather, too!

I have been in the spring and in the fall (just barely off season), and the weather was beautiful. A little rain and some fog two nights, but who would want to go to England and not see the fog at least once.

I would make sure there was time to just wander about, in the area where you family farmed, in fact you might check (if you know the names of the farms) and see if one of them is a B&B, so that you can stay there..... BTW the food in England was great.... We did a London week on our first trip and then a tour of Devon and Cornwall. The second trip we stayed in London the first night and then went by train to Cornwall.....and then spent a couple days in London on the way home...... The trains are excellent, and you see so much.....
