I would go when the kids are in school, Cornwall is full of tourists for part of the year, but once the tourist season is over, much like Canada things are great.... I might think of arranging to rent cars in a couple of places, trains are better, but if you are spending a week someplace then you will want a car. Don't forget to specify an automatic car.... I had a terrible time getting used to the standard gearshift, bad enough I hadn't driven one in years, but put it on the wrong side and I had a dreadful time. And the roads are fast, and not very forgiving..... If you like walking they have all kinds of places you can tour on foot......
