"But McCain is the only one who can derail Hillary."

It's TRUE that McCain beats Hillary head-to-head in the polling. (Because he draws a lot from the middle-of-the-road and Independents --- a good third or more of the voting population --- while Hillary, and many of the other Republican candidates we could talk about, draw in their Party's bases... but little more then that.)

However, I believe that it is unlikely (I give it a 40% or less chance) that Hillary will be the Dem. nominee.

Of course, that remains to be seen, and depends upon how soon people rally round the 'anti-Hillary' candidate in the Dem primaries.

Hillary's best shot at winning the general election is only if the Reps. nominate someone regarded as a social extremist (by the middle-of-the-roaders & independents), in which case she would have a little better then a 50/50 chance, I believe.

However, I don't believe the Reps. will do that. There are TOO MANY potential candidates running to the 'social conservative' side of the field --- they will split their support, and leave the main path open for McCain (who the Party big whigs will support once they believe he is their best chance at victory... kinda like the rationale the Dem. big whigs used this last go-round to talk themselves into supporting Kerry.)
