The founding fathers said NO RELIGION IN GOVERNMENT and specifically warned Americans about "orthodox churches" (meaning far rightwing fundamentalists of various types). Furthermore, surprisingly, they said that there was no evidence that Christ was divine, they distrusted the Pope and said nothing in the Bible could be proven to be true so it was irrelevant. Sound like pretty smart rational men, huh? That said, worship your motorcycle if you want to. Freedom of religion means believe in anything you want, including nothing at all. And whatever you do, don't push your religion on anyone else. Or try to dictate your version of morality. Barry Goldwater hated the religious right types who tried to tell him what it was to me moral.
