cuf,

"I told him my name isn't Reid. My name is Owens. I'm not one of his kids. Don't tell me to shut up."

<< Hate to say I told you, Eric, but I sure as hell did. >>

You did. You were right. We had a highly productive model citizen for one year. Now we have a premier athlete with 6 pack abs and a 6th grade mentality, which might be a grade ahead of his agent's.

Rather sad. He's not going to get the money he wants. It's Andy's and Donovan's team so he can't control anything. Cutting himself off from Donovan was a fatal error. That leaves him bidding for media attention and the attention of the dwindling number of fans he has left.

It'll be his last season in green and that's a given. How he performs on field, if Andy lets him on the field, will determine his future value at age 32 and beyond. Given his miraculous recovery for the Super Bowl and his performance, his endorsement value would have been huge if he'd come into camp with the same attitude as last year.

<< The good news is, the TO story will be such a distraction that you'll never notice the Iggles crash and burn. >>

This is a football town. When camps over, and preseason's over, silly season distractions will give way to focus on the game just played and the game ahead, how the rooks and sophs are shaping up, and how the numerous all-pros on both sides of the ball are holding up. The Iggles will provide the usual great entertainment and win more than they lose and while the offense is getting killed off in camp the defense is solid.

Schedule's not that tough, divisions not that tough, and fortunately we have some very good youngsters to complement great veterans and the best coaching staff in the league now that Boston's is broken up, but dreams of a Super Bowl are not too realistic at this stage. We'll have to do a mid-season sanity check on that. Given the injuries we started the year with last year, last year shouldn't have been a Super Bowl year. Probably wouldn't have been without T.O.

A bigger issue than T.O. is Brian Westbrook, our best offensive weapon. Hopefully we can sign him to a long term contract that he's happy with -- sentiment here is PAY HIM, as opposed to the T.0. sentiment, SCREW HIM -- and hopefully beyond that he stays healthy. Our single big back may be lost, isn't that good to begin with, and I'm not sure we can get Dorsey Levins out of retirement for the 4th consecutive season, but we have a rookie scat back that could come along quickly.

To top things off, the NHL is back, and Clarkie's put together what could be the best Flyers team since he played, and Hitch is the best coach in the NHL.

Go Iggles! Go Flyers! Go Sixers!

Hate to say I told you

Coming from you, Frank, that's an oxymoron.

Déjà Vu ... but No Surprise ...

cuf: McNabb to T.O. ... 1st play of the Iggles 1st [2004] preseason game ... against the Ravens. .. 81 yards. ... TD

<< The Iggles open the preseason on Monday against Pittsburgh. I wonder how TO'll do this year. ... Hate to say I told you, Eric, but I sure as hell did. ... The good news is, the TO story will be such a distraction that you'll never notice the Iggles crash and burn. - cuf - >>

As you know he didn't play against Pittsburgh. He was "on vacation" ... courtesy of Andy Reid and that gave him a chance to vent publicly and contemplate his navel and his NFL future before having his brief "Come to Andy" [the Iggles Jesus] meeting about 10 days ago after Andy spent the weekend reading several books on child psychology loaned to him by "She Who Must be Obeyed" [Tammy Reid].

Fast Forward to 2005 ...

On the first play from scrimmage in the 3rd preseason game, and Terrell's 1st start, Donovan aired it out, and T.O. extended, caught, cut, and accelerated and with 6 seconds elapsed in the game the Iggles went up 6-0 on a 64 yard TD play. Everybody in the stands knew that would be the 1st call, and so did Marvin Lewis and all the Bengals assistant coaches and their defenders so Terrell was double covered. Didn't matter.

No crash and burn in this football city this football year. Just great football entertainment. "Distractions" welcome. The Iggles used to be good but boring. Boring no more. Just good. QB doesn't have to talk to #1 wideout. Hand signals work just fine for 2 abnormally skilled athletes that have 15+ years with the west coast offense.

I think the nooners are due here early this year. Tune in.
