You wonder about how Americans can be so shallow in the same post that refers in a negative manner to the President's looks and charm. That lack of consistency goes to explain your flawed assessment of Hillary.

I give her high marks for having the nerve and gall of a cat burglar. Past that, there is little to recommend her.

Charisma Charm and likability including looks are very important political qualities. Simple likability is very important. Being a technical genious is not what's important.
