Really? I've been told that community colleges in California avoid hiring full-time teachers in order to avoid paying benefits and that this has been going on for quite some time.

I know this strikes you as funny but you perhaps need to know that one of the great sins of the higher education industry, particularly public higher education, is the degree to which it's work is done by adjuncts. People who are paid less than minimal wages, not given any pension benefits, and no health insurance.

Lower taxes and all that. Hmmph.
