Oh I met all sorts of interesting people on account of the Renault. Mechanics in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, and several places in the United States. None in France, curiously. It was an education in itself. Survival training, in fact. How about a blown engine out in the Spanish countryside? How about a destroyed transmission at 2 a.m. in the Bronx? I was so young and crazy that I drove that POS to Istanbul and Mexico City and to California and lived to tell the tale. Drove it clear across Canada flat out. That was the end. It died in Waterbury, Vermont, aged three years and with 41,000 miles on it. R. I. P., P. O. S.
