The smiling person will generally make a more favorable impression than the grump, yeah. News organizations aren't immune to this, especially when deciding on "optional" coverage. They're more apt to provide extensive coverage to the photogenic (the Runaway Bride being an exception, IMO :-)).

I didn't want her to feel any pain, pretty or not. Friend's wife went the starvation route because of cancer so I I have to do a little more thinking on this.
