Ford gearing up for more layoffs

DETROIT (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co. (F) is bracing for more restructuring actions, which may include plant closings and additional layoffs, as it tries to stem steep losses in its key North American vehicle operations.
-----------------
"The challenge we face isn't a traditional economic downturn," Ford Chairman and Chief Executive Bill Ford Jr. said in an e-mail message to employees this week. "It's a new, rapidly evolving, brutally competitive global marketplace."

comments from Steve on the FOOL follow

Translation: over the years, management has consistantly put vehicles into production that noone wants unless we put thousands of dollars on the hood. To compensate for this bonehead management that has forgotten what it knew so well in the 60s, how to make exciting cars, our employees will be sacrificed.

The local news tonight reports that the headcount reductions started today, with people being notified they were gone and being escorted out by security on the spot.

Perhaps people can take out home equity loans to pay for those higher gas prices.

You'll be nostalgic about $3 gasoline when the price is $6.50

Keep the photo as a keepsake.
