used to be a problem tracking van type trailers. dispatcher would have spares at exit points along the turnpikes. You could double up trailers on turnpikes but not drive them on state roads etc. Also used them for local delivers to drop off empty drums, return them to a van packed in local area vs coming back to shipping warehouse. One dispatcher i knew had a hundred of these trailers spread around new England. Auditors used to go crazy with him trying to follow his documentation. before pc's. ha

rail tank cars used to be another problem. i shipped out loaded tank cars to customers and on occasion had them returned fulled ,with customer signature of receipt of product.

Even saw it happen at one of our lube plants out west. I caught it in reviewing some inventory losses.

even had a production guy run into me one time saying they lost a full production of a blend oil. they went out to measure the tank of the finished product and it was empty. The plant manager wanted me to call in security. ha I asked him if possible he pumped it into the wrong tank. he got pissed with me then two hours later told me , that a line wasn't opened correctly and yes they pumped it into the wrong tank. sorry for the flash backs.. getting old. back to politics.
