Really? How interesting! A friend and I were speculating about that the other day and came up with a bunch of possibilities but we missed that one. What triggered the discussion was that I had seen a movie on TV where the perp was recognized to be a cop based on the evidence of flashlight beam angle.

A flashlight club wouldn't have the same force if held overhand, though, as underhand, but I can see where having it already raised would be an advantage.
