What's going to make them?

Pat Buchanan tried, but was early.

What if Trancredo does it, gets some votes? They'll isolate him as a nativist, but you have rising local concern in the Southwest states.

Look at Bill Richardson's comments you posted.

Calif. tried with Prop. 228, vitiated by our lovely 9th Circuit.

Now there aren't enough Anglos left in the state to vote anything down that would hurt the Hispanics.

They looked around and got out of here. White flight really accelerated after the '93 earthquake, race riots.

The issue is there, for either party. Someone just has to figure out how to use it.

Now they're trying to step around the racist accusations by talking about the diseases illegals bring in with them. They also try to excuse tightening the borders by claiming it's a way to keep terrorists out.

Nobody wants to say the racial composition and the culture are being overwhelmed by the immigrants.

Everybody is afraid of being accused of racism. The argument has to be framed in a way that makes supporting tighter borders acceptable.

And, yes, the Hispanics are spreading throughout the country. They were having Cinco de Mayo in Chicago 20 years ago.

Now there are Mexican restaurants in southern Indiana and Kentucky, rural farm communities with hardly any people.

I know it's an uncomfortable conversation for Anglos because it deals implicitly with race, and we've had the media and academia pounding us for 30, 40 years for our sins, but we do have a right to preserve our cultural traditions just as any other group does.
