granddad calls her - offers her week cruise to bahamas, she say no (cause she knew it would piss me off) so then I know that selfish fugger sweeten the pot for her a little, he offer to take one of her friends, buy her a horse for her farm, and give her a lot of money for shopping. So her choice was boring weekend at the beach with me picking up shells - or wild fun adventures with super rich granddaddy and a horse she had wanted for several years - had I lived in 1930 - this girl would have chose me - but in the modern USA - the culture DIVIDES me and her, it does not UNITE us like in the past.

This sounds like an exceptional case. This guy has problems I think?

so the poverty reinforced young people spending more time and needing each other more - the old had no money to pass on and compete

There have always been rich and poor. What is different is that in most societies women had second class status till recently. My mother went to college on scholarship in 1948 when only a few "poor" people like her could in Australia. But the job opportunities for women were still fairly limited to more traditional fields unless you really were determined.

And my Dad came from a once rich family but never inherited anything until he was very old or was helped out apart from shelter in the worst times in the transition from Germany to Britain. Not everyone with rich grandparents or parents gets a lot of money or help, I think there are cultural aspects here.

I was reading those abstracts and the economists say people want to deny that theya re going to die and so give less inter vivos transfers than is rational economically.

i know this is the only way I will find a woman to raise a family like I want - looking here is pointless - like my native american indian friend says - they are all TOO RICH - but if I can go to phillipines like slagle and find some poor girl I have lots better chances - but I am meeting too many phillipine girls that are online and getting all kinds of slagle types sending them FREE MONEY and GIFTS from internet chat rooms - so I wonder if it is too late.

Half the people who get married in the US at least stay that way, so things aren';t as bad as you suggest I think. You seem to have the time nd money so why not just get on a plane and go look around over there in Asia and see what is going on?

The biggest foundation in the country now is the Gates Foundation. Bigger than the Harvard endowment. Buffett will leave his Berkshire stock in a foundation. His son though who is on the board and has a farm seems to have gotten some help already... Buffett's non-BRK wealth is mostly built from loans against BRK as he has never sold any or paid a dividend since the first year.
