It's a fascinating place. Been twice on stopovers between Europe and Australia. You shoudl go. What are you waiting for? It's safer than big cities Philipines are said to be (haven't been there). Walked round all over the place on my own in the dark in the day. Got thoroughly lost and then just got a taxi back to the hotel. But maybe you'd get in trouble there :P I liked Singapore too. Was in Johor Baharu as well and the KL airport where you could be anywhere (Singapore airport feels like the MidWest, KL like Europe), but that is the sum of my experience in the East or South/East Asia.
