Third, did you forget or choose to overlook the 1993 WTC bombing where 6 died and over 1000 were injured?

Yes, I did. Thank you for reminding me.

Secondly, I suspect that your 2700 number is a tad low.

Using the number from KLP's Wiki source, that's 2986 for 9/11 plus 6 for the earlier WTC attack, the correct total of deaths should be 2992 and the correct total of incidents should be two.

(I had seen something recently that said that the number of deaths had been adjusted to 27 something so I plucked that number and plugged it in. But I'm vague on where I saw that and it could have been a number for just New York. I should have used the standard "3000" as my number, not that it would have produced a different reaction.)

So, I stand corrected at 2992 deaths and two incidents rather than 2700 and one.

I was merely questioning cobalt's opinion on who is the greater threat - the communists or the terrorists (read AQ).

And I was commenting on your opinion of her opinion. I agree with her.

It is patently obvious to the casual observer that AQ is the greater threat.

You have offered no argument to support that. "Patently obvious" is not an argument, it's an opinion. Of course, you are entitled to it.

I think it's compellingly obvious that the Soviets, who had "some number I dare not guestimate" of operative and effective missiles pointed at us, enough to kill just about everyone in the country, several hundred million, and who threatened and were a heartbeat away from doing just that is a greater threat than AQ, which, although has announced it's desire to kill all of us, has not demonstrated the capability of killing more than a few thousand at infrequent intervals.

For the math impaired, several hundred million is extraordinarily more than several thousand. And for the risk-assessment impaired, operational and aimed nuclear missiles are a greater threat than plane hijackings or suicide bombings or the potential for dirty bombs or broken vials of anthrax.
