Of course they were/are both threats. The question on the table was which was/is the greater threat in its time. If you have picked one over the other in this response, I'm not sure. I could infer from "huge" that you've picked the Soviets. Not that it matters. And not that you have any obligation to choose. It's mostly an academic exercise.
