My girlfriend and I watched Kagemusha last weekend, both thinking what terrible shame Mifune and Kurosawa were no longer working together by that time. Red Beard was the end of their collaboration, in great part because the film took so long to shoot and Mifune had to keep his beard throughout, and wasn't able to accept work on other projects in the meantime.

Damn. (Sound of hand hitting forehead with some force.) You are absolutely right. And it skipped my mind completely. We've been members almost since it started. But it's for my wife and oldest daughter. I've never been terribly interested.
