Didn't an excellent government response to floods also help in 2002? What I can't recall is how far behind the SPD was before the Bush-bashing began in 2002. Last time I heard any numbers about Schroder's chances now, the SPD was something like 20 points behind. I haven't seen the new numbers, but I hear they are closer than that. One would think -20 was just about rock bottom.

The "High Water" master Gerhard smells another hope with the floods in Southern Germany.
Last time (6 years ago) he played the taboo anti American card and furthermore walked on water to his totally unexpected - and for the country disastrous- victory.
