I can't locate it at the moment, but a blogger posted a moving story of his experience at 22 when his 17 year old sister was killed driving to work. He had to take charge of his parents' day to day activities for about 8 months because of their grief and states of mind. His mom threw herself into fighting to improve the road where his sister died, mainly as a way to feel that something positive could come out of a tragedy. So it is easy to see how a grief-stricken person could be manipulated. Hopefully she will be reconciled with her family at some point. It would be very sad if the alienation is permanent.

Yes. It is unfortunate that she cannot see this. OTOH, she may have solicited their involvement. Blogs have indicated that she is a long standing anti-war person - so who knows.
