I think there was a whole crew in the Bush admin., all with different reasons that pointed to the same invasion. Bush wanted to keep the "war President" thing going, outdo daddy and avenge the attempt on his life. I'm sure Bush though having wars was fun and cool too. Rove wanted the "war president" thing too. Rummy wanted to keep the war thing going to test his war theories. The neocons wanted to do it as a part of their long term plans (PNAC) and the Jewish neocons wanted to do it for Israel as well. The military loves wars, they get to blow stuff up and get rid of old munitions and hardware, test stuff they've never had the chance to use, and get real experience for their veterans. Dick Cheney saw some great war profiteering potential for his corporate buddies. Somewhere, the oil interests were concerned about Iraq demanding euros for oil.

You notice I never mentioned WMD's or "freeing the Iraqi people"!
I'm totally cynical about the motives of government
