"Secondly, Ahmadinejad managed to infiltrate into peoples' hearts, particularly the poor and those who believe the government should fight administrative and economic corruption," he told Gulf News by phone. His way of dealing with the people influenced the voters much more than the camp the president-elect comes from: the conservatives. Ahmadinejad sought support among those embittered by the social changes and those who have suffered in Iran's faltering economy. Yes, I saw that. I also saw pictures of young guys and gals dressed in pseudo military or clerical garb putting up his posters and joining rallies that were in support of him. There is a strong religious, hard line core even among the people........how many of them I don't know. I would not be surprised if its split 50/50 like in the US. In addition, I have read quotes where some people think Ahmadinejad will defend them against a Bush attack. Frankly, I don't know which side is in the majority or what everyone's motivation was for voting for the hardline guy and neither do you. It would be great if Mani came on the thread and told us what's he's hearing but I suspect that would be uncomfortable for him. Probably the truth is somewhere in the middle. Bottomline: all this posting back and forth has confirmed that you had no right making your original post, suggesting that I was making things up as I went along and that I am ignorant on the subject. Clearly, you are no more informed than I am.
