"A temporary situation...." Perhaps... but who knows? All I can go by is the metrics, which show rising intensity in the conflict, rising expenses for the US, and (according to our Intelligence services) rising recruitment levels for jihadists, for about a year now. At some point, you've got to deal with the realities... not just count on the world turning a certain way just because you wish it would. Pollyanna-ish views, ignoring the history and fundamentals of the religious and ethnic divides of the area (not to mention the power politics goals of Iran and Saudi Arabia), are unlikely to be fruitful.
