According to BoC, in the first 2 months of 2005, the area of overseas purchase of the new high-end condo in Shanghai (those priced at >11000 Yuan/sq. meter) has increased 47.6%, and the total value increased 73% y-o-y. The area of second-hand high-end condo bought by foreigners increased 280 percent, and the total value increased 310 times comparing with the same time last year.

As of the end of 2004, the mortgage by Chinese residents accounts ofr 11.7% of the total GDP.
