Before the war, I rather liked the idea of an independent Kurdistan but it wasn't realistic I guess, because our allies, the Turks, might not support us when we needed them. Imagine that!

no kidding...

i think it has been a form of insanity to really expect or rely on support from any muslim country (even those which are more secular like turkey)

i have always felt the kurds should have their own country, at least based on what i had read about them culturally and geographically...i really didn't know (or care) that much about the sunnis or the shiites and their historical animus, but now i certainly do care....
