The wise are few in number.

So true MOO, but so many think they are one of the few wise, 99% of the people think they are in the top 10% of investors - I have read several academic studies along this line. I accept I am very poor at it, I have lost my share of wealth in losing investments and even here on SI followed some fantasy myself.

I was listening at the financial planners in florida that come on after phil grandie last week - I don't remember the show - Slagle maybe can help us - anyways they were talking about an academic study about certain people who either had brain damage from stroke or childhood type calamities or birth problems - and how in these particular people - certain emotional centers of the brain were either abnormal or just non functional - basically they didn't have the emotional response of most of the rest of us in the herd to similar events. This study was about investors with this brain defects - and from what the guys were saying these investors were getting superior returns than normal brain functioning investors - that thier lack of fear or excitement made them much better investors - I wish I had more info to give you than that - but have you heard of such a study? The rest of the show they went on talking about why indexing is superior for most people because during 9/11 type events most people would have sold at the low and bought back in after the recovery - the worst thing to do if you want to make money.

I put the gerrymander dude on ignore right away :)

You have to understand though MOO - although you and I perhaps cannot relate through any cultural or logical means to his thought expression - to him it is perfectly logical and you and I seem like the aberrations with abnormal thought. Like those savants.

I remember reading in psychology class about dendrites and axons and such, and the prof was talking about these aboriginees centuries ago who were coming into contact with some european explorers. Anyways the professor told us there were these objects - complex mechanical devices - and these aboriginees simply could not comprehend certain instruction given to them about these things, no matter the amount of time involved, but thier children with the same devices were able to eventually be educated to thier use. I think the prof went on to say because the aboriginees had never encountered such things or been forced to work with them with thier hands and increase manual dexterity and the neural connections that forms in the brain as children - they just didn't have the "wiring" to ever grasp the device and could not get it - like languages - its harder for most to learn them when you get older and your brain crystalizes.

So you got a gerrymander type, who says he watches cspan 1,2,and 3 for the past 25 years, spent probably many waking hours online and thinking about stuff presented there - some of the things there are very complex issues - so over many many years his dendrite and axon connections and nueral formation is not like the average run of the mill person - makes him seem very strange to the rest of us. I have seen this aberration with many chess types and obsessive types. Many times they aren't aware they are the ones with the abnormalities next to the herd.

I have not read many academic studies (i guess getting funding to study crack heads is hard - hehe), but I have known many crack heads MOO - and yes they are not capable of normal function in society - but I have been shocked sometimes at the mental capabilites of these people. Idiot savant type mental maneuvering - only long after thier crack high. I want funding to this type of research, but grace tells me that is anti bible - so I fear the USA may lose this future source of scientific knowledge to other states who will have no problem altering genes and cells and chemical expressions and DNA in peoples brains to study what happens. I think she watched that movie the FLY too many times and is very scared. I have seen many people that took prozac and zoloft that saved them when I was sure they would have committed suicide without it - so from a moral and ethical issue we already are altering brains and thier chemisty - so why do these people have a problem with more detailed study but so accepting of mind altering pharmacueticals?
