Makes sens, but she stinks too and there could be another side to it.

The father, who also lost his son, may be feeling mortified to see his wife dishonor his son's memory like this and it was the final thing which broke the camels back in their marriage.

Perhaps what he feels she has done to the memory of their son stinks and the point he is making is for the American people to see that this family is not a monlith.
