No, we know we were wrong right now. The invasion was based on WMD... wrong. The invasion was based on the belief that it would be successful in the short term... wrong. If you had tried to "sell" the invasion to the people based on the actual reality, it would be a non-starter. The fact that the justification and the outcome of the invasion was fiction, makes the decision wrong.

I call it doing the right thing for the wrong reason. I agree "selling" the war to the American people as a means to free an oppressed people from their evil dictator would have gotten a resounding "Hell no, we won't go!". I agree with any objection you might have to GB's misleaading the American public in the lead up to the invasion, but nevertheless I think the Saddam regime's destruction is a good thing and that Iraq, the world and therefore America will be better off for it in the long run. We'll have a better idea if I'm right or not in ~10 years.

If you look at yourself as a member of a planet as opposed to as a US citizen, it seems you should support removing an unpopular, authoritarian, dictator from power. All countries of the world are better off with the guy gone as long as what replaces him is better than him. I'd hope the Iraqis can put together a government system which is better than Saddam's regime, but that's what were going to find out over the next 1-5 years.

You may dream of some positive (but unlikely) outcome at some unspecified date... that's just dreaming. Most in the US look at the sacrifice and the Iraqi reality and know the decision was a mistake.

Again, all this will be decided in 10-20 years. Most people nowadays think the Korean war was worthwhile because the goal was achieved. Most think the Vietnam war was a collosal mistake because the goal was not achieved. Until we get to the end of the Iraq story, the decision whether the sacrifice was worth it or not won't be known, or at least agreed upon.

Maybe your physical distance from the US contributes to your mental distance from reality.

If you say so!

re: Come on, the jury is still out, regardless of what some editorial article says. Take a look at Iraq in ~2010, then see if you were right or wrong.

But John, you've got to admit its different this time with Iran. Ole Rummie and Bush are sure that Iran is up to no good. They are sure!!! We need to attack them asap.
