What we have accomplished so far has been paid for by individuals ready, willing, and able to put everything they have on the line, including the noble sacrifice of their own lives. We have created the finest example of a liberal democracy the world has ever known. The social evolution of the world has historically been the progressive liberation from tyranny in one form or another. Our superpower and superwealth is a direct result of that accomplishment. The question is not how much should we spend but how should we spend what we have? Every life and every penny will be spent, after all, in one manner or another. Live at all costs but sacrifice even that, if need be, to live in the moment to honor noble human endeavor. You will lose your life at some point, will you have your honor or lose that as well? We are a desperate generation of gatekeepers as we are the bucket brigade standing around the dancer in his ring of fire watching for the new wine.
