Ted, faith doesn't just appear out of nowhere. Things happen in our lives. Those are the facts. The way we deal with these experiences forms what we believe in and what we have faith in.

Things do happen in people's lives and they shape how people think. Many turn to religion. But religion is just another cultural form.....like joining a choir or a political party. Its a place for people to share similar ideas and practices.

However, believing in an afterlife is a step beyond belonging to a religion and the life experiences/facts that got you into the religion in the first place. Now you are entering into a different realm......beyond fact........into the supernatural. You are saying that you believe in ghosts, in things that go bump in the night. To believe, you must have faith because there are no facts to back you up.

Billions of people in this world have religious experiences. Those experiences lead them to believe in whatever they believe in. You dismiss it as fantasy, but why? Because you distrust "organized religion"? Because you think they're just more instances of man manipulating man?

You're changing the subject again. The issue is evolution vs ID. One is based on science and fact, the other on myth and faith. I believe that was the distinction Z was trying to make. And if not, I am sure he will correct me.

And now for your questions........yes, I distrust organized religion. I think it has very little to do with spiritualism.....with the belief in a supreme being. Maybe at the core there are some believers like the Pope who are very much in touch with their inner self and have some semblance of spirituality but I believe the vast majority do not........and that's why I believe there is so much hypocrisy.
