"Dell Satisfaction Rating Takes Deep Dive
Lisa DiCarlo, 08.16.05, 3:00 PM ET

NEW YORK - Dell, coming off a week in which it disappointed investors with a very un-Dell-like quarterly report and subdued forecast, this week appears to be disappointing its customers too.

According to figures released Tuesday morning from the University of Michigan American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), Dell's (nasdaq: DELL - news - people ) customer satisfaction rating dropped a steep 6.3% to 74 out of a possible 100--the biggest drop among the major PC makers. Dell's customer satisfaction now merely meets overall customer satisfaction with the PC industry. "

I don't doubt that. Especially after having dealt with Bob from India this weekend over a crashed 2 year old laptop running XP. 2 hours on the phone trying to interpret what the hell Bob was saying and then another hour in transfer land only to find out they wanted $200 to "help" me with a software problem.

K, their customer service has been disappointing customers for years now.... However, if you pay a couple hundred extra for 'premium level' support, you might actually get someone that you can understand...

Best regards,
John

PS - I still remember the pimply faced girl that came to replace a hard disk going bad on my wife's machine. When she left, the zip drive no longer worked, and I spent more time diagnosing that problem (after cracking the case I found she unplugged the cable to the zip drive and neglected to plug it back in) than I would have if Dell had just mailed the drive to me and I put it in myself...
