Propaganda works. It's just that the Republicans have been toying around with propaganda for forty years ever since they realized the Dems were for civil rights, the rule of law and nasty things like that.

They've refined their image somewhat but Republicans are still what they've always been. They just keep moving their culture of hate from one group to another. Right now their focus is on 'liberals' and 'a-rabs'.

Yup. There always has to be an enemy so they can move their agenda.

Roberts: can't figure out why school prayer is unconstitutional. Gee. Roberts: married to an antiabortion extremist. Gee.

That guy is looking more like a sleeper rightwing loon every day.

No kidding. He wanted to have a memorial service for aborted fetuses.

One plausible thing I've heard is that Roberts was very carefully evaluated and selected long ago in the knowledge that at least one Justice would be leaving during this administration, and that these pleasant stories about Shrub going around and interviewing possible candidates, chatting about jogging and so forth, are just the usual mythology to keep the masses happy.
