What if we we never get to the elections?

A scenario I have heard discussed goes something like this...

A multiple city terrorist attack occurs prior to the election.
Damage is severe and martial law is put in place immediately.
Private inspection of all citizens is allowed. Oil prices spike dramatically and consumption drops at the same time. Gold prices double in a few months time.

Food supplies begin to take on the appearance we used to see about Russian grocery stores. Lots of shelf space. Roads become vast strips of empty asphalt.

Fuel is severely rationed.

We begin to suspect Russian or Chinese involvement......

Fear rules the land......

Media is taken over. Daily dispatches attempt to settle people down. To calm them.

Bubble, bubble, bubble the citizenry boils in a slow heat.

Chapter two..........

I have been thinking about starting a draft Harry Reid campaign for the Dems candidate for prez.. He's not my favorite. But he is doing a helluva lot more than Daschle as minority leader. He even said Bush was a loser <g>. He is a conservative Dem, pro-life personally but doesn't bother others about their own choice, a pretty fair environmentalist, but still doesn't mess with business too much..

I think he would attract the middle of the road voter and would be a pretty GOOD start to turn the Bush Titanic around before we hit the iceberg and sink.. Maybe run with a more liberal from the middle west, A Barack Abama type or a woman, but not Hillary. Besides she wouldn't play second fiddle to him, IMO.

I have met him personally and heard him speak a time or two.. He seems like a milque toast, but there is a certain toughness there.

We have to start somewhere. Besides I am tired of southern and eastern candidates.. Why do those regions always dominate our politics when they are not the economic or social leaders of our country any more? They are the trailers.. I know why, they know what to say, imo, but that's all. (disclaimer, I am not talking about individuals from there, only their politicians)..

Just thinking out loud.
