"I'm not in favor of the Babel theories, so I can't answer these more nuanced points."

Aahh, but "nuanced" is the right wing code word for "unable or unwilling to take a stance". Are you accusing me of that?

You have pointed up the major problem that European and American paleoanthropologists have. Europeans like to believe that Neadertals evolved into modern humans. Most Americans like to state that Homo Sap. replaced Neadertal.

It is likely that the Basque missed out on the Indo-European wave. But the Indo-Europeans were already to the point of being able to count to some small number and to have the basis of dealing with horses and farming. So they already had trade and other things. Which probably exceeded what Neadertals could do.

Unfortunately, some Neanderthal DNA has been found and sequenced, and it is distinctly non-human. Actually, IIRC, they were arguing for human/neanderthal mix. I kind of hoped something like that would pan out, just because I'd like to think they didn't all die out. Oh well..

Neanderthals are not part of our ancestry? Can you tell I don't have a science background?

You have a link to that? If true I am amazed I missed out on that. Quite interesting if true.
