I don't think so. I do know that GAs have been used to do actual designs. Some of the designs that have been produced show layouts that no human would have done.

Neolib, Perhaps some of the IC verification CAD tools already us Genetic Algorithms, you might want to look into that.

Actually, when I started working here, one of the validation teams used an in-house validation tool called "Darwin." That's what inspired the analogy in the first place.

Of course, "Darwin" didn't exactly work the way it should have worked, since the "gene" concept never gave us anything more meaningful than if we just sent a bunch of random cycles through.
