Annexing northern Mexico is an intriguing idea. But if we were going to annex anywhere, why not annex the parts with the oil, or at least the good beaches? ;^)

[*** maybe we should just negotiate a new border and take over Northern mexico and add 11 new states to the Union - probably a win-win all around ***] John

Or, we could annex all of Canada with their 264 billion oil reserve second only to Saudi Arabia. Then, we could practice our French since we already speak Spanish quite well. :-)
