Thursday August 18, 4:26 pm ET
By Michael Paige

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Autodesk Inc. late Thursday said its fiscal second-quarter profit nearly doubled as revenue climbed 33%. The design-software company also lifted its outlook for the year as a whole. Autodesk said its quarterly profit rose to $75.3 million, or 30 cents a share, from $39.2 million, or 16 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue for the period ended July 31 increased to $373 million from $279.6 million. Excluding one-time items, the company would have earned $73.4 million, or 29 cents a share, up from $44.2 million, or 18 cents a share, a year earlier. Wall Street analysts, on average, expected the company behind the AutoCAD software program to earn 24 cents a share on revenue of $357.7 million, according to a Thomson First Call survey.
