Vassar Clement has passed away. news.bbc.co.uk

I always loved his fiddlin', but I remember him best from the group, "Old and in the way." Other members of that band included mandolist extradinaire, Dave Grisham, Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead on banjo, and Peter Rowan of The New Riders of The Purple Sage, who handled most of the vocals. Vassar didn't know them before they started practicing their music together. One day on their drive to the studio in San Francisco, they saw a huge sign advertising a Grateful Dead concert. Vassar took a look at the sign and then a glance at Jerry.

"Hey, Garcia, that goomer on that billboard looks like you." <VBG>

Bill,

Right now I am hanging on to just a few natural resource stocks - only the ones that pay relatively high dividends based on my entry price. I do not see anything that is getting sold off for no good reason.

I suspect a fair amount of timber exported to china is from New Zealand because of the short haul.

IMO, when this housing game goes down investors will sell US paper assets and ask questions later.

I am assuming the dollar will also be sold off and am holding a fair amount of foreign bonds.

Take care, Joan
