I think the Saudis are pumping as much as they can pump. Bush already kissed and held hands with the head Saudi - it didn't help, but maybe he got wood. We're in a very precarious postition if Venezuala really does cut us off.

I wonder if the Saudis are busy planning a one-two sucker punch for the American Public which they obviously hold in great disdain.

The Saudis can't afford to fool around......for a long time, they spent more than they were making. Apparently, the royal family has grown by leaps and bounds over the past twenty years and they all want a hefty allowance. So while there are surpluses from the oil boom, there is also a huge public debt that needs to be whittled down:

Saudi surplus to hit $29bn

Saudi Arabia: Thursday, August 18 - 2005 at 07:59
Saudi Arabia's budget surplus is expected to cross $29.33bn for 2005 on oil revenues of $112bn, according to a report by Saudi British Bank. Saudi recorded a budget surplus of $26.1bn in 2004 on record prices for its crude exports. The government said part of the surplus would be used for repaying public debts estimated at $176bn.
