Earlier in the week, terrorists did a big bombing aimed at ordinary Iraqis on their way to work - not at Americans, not at foreigners, not at Iraqi army or police - just ordinary Iraqis going to work exactly like the victims in NY on 911 or in London recently. The Islamist war isn't just a war on the west anymore. Iraq is a target because it is trying to democratize. These kinds of stories don't get much press attention unless they occur in NY or London. HORROR AT RUSH-HOUR BAGHDAD: Fifty-four people were killed in Iraq yesterday, most by a triple car bombing that struck a busy bus station and a nearby hospital during morning rush-hour. A series of insurgent attacks also killed 11 Iraqis, including six soldiers assigned to protect oil pipelines in northern Iraq, security officials said. The attacks occurred two days after politicians failed to meet a deadline to draft the country's new constitution, breaking a brief lull in major insurgent attacks. Four suspects have been arrested for the bombings, Interior Minister Bayan Baker Solagh said. The three car bombs exploded in quick succession in the centre of the Iraqi capital, killing 43 people and wounding 73 others. An interior ministry official said two cars exploded 10 minutes apart in the Al Nahda bus station and a third blew up later near Al Kindi hospital in the same neighbourhood. A woman and a child were among those killed, he added. Al Nahda is a major bus station which links the capital with the predominantly Shi'ite regions to the south of Baghdad. The third car bomb exploded in a leafy part of the neighbourhood where people usually seek shade in the blazing heat of Baghdad's summer, especially during morning rush hour gulf-daily-news.com
