It really is simple, whatever makes the US look the worst. Since there has never been an article posted that was not negative of the US this answer is obvious.

To some people, government, and anyone in government is bad and not to be trusted.

Add to that the gloss that in particular, the United States government is especially bad and to be distrusted (this, I believe is largely a hangover from the 1960's and early 1970's).

With the above in mind, Occam's Razor and the question of simple vs. complex really has no application.

What it comes down to is, what is the scenario that puts the United States in the worst possible light and attributes to its leaders the worst possible motives?
