I thought Texans were big on self-reliance and didn't like interfering in one's life, not to mention supporting those awful trial lawyers. Where did they find twelve good Texans to produce that verdict? <g>

Merck is a bad actor in the Vioxx case. They withheld evidence of side effects and actually urged their sales people to cover up any issues, as I recall.

From what I hear about the evidence, I would have voted for the defense. The guy died of arrythmia. This can happen to anybody regardless of whether they have heart disease.

I've heard it a couple of times on the radio that Texas limits punitive damages to 1 and a half times actual damages. So they were saying likely end would be a couple of million dollars. The bad thing is that there are thousands of suits that Merck is facing.
