"Iraq will end up being three countries."

Not if any of the minority-kurdish neighboring countries have anything to say.
(remember that ököcölölöman? bad terrosits but not executed)

NATO-EU-Turkey might be a real factor, almost like in the Cuba-Crises.

However, after Turkey is another EU-member, Iraq and Iran are good ones too.
(even all those Kurds know that).

PS It was not an accident that Wales and Scotland did not declare independency from London, nor that Italy did not get split in two halves (bless Berlusconi too).

Wales, Scotland and London might also have become "three countries" (but Wales and Scotland got some promises of their future, while North Ireland was just tragic and funny).

Yugoslavia was a tradegy, but it is improving.

"Iraq will end up being three countries"

Btw, one of the funniest key sentences of thinks+thanks USA.

Wet colonial dream, as it is defined as..

"Iraqi oil will pay for our war" was another popular one.

However, I think the American Entringneuron and Heritage Enterprise are somewhat happy already, for some 16 years of their future.
(However, I understood gerrymandering will handle all US elections for at least another 30 years)

The smart thing for Bush to do would have been to declare victory after Saddam was captured, and the two sons killed.
We could have set a target then to get out in 6 months.
Now - he seems to have himself trapped in a box - no way out. Can't leave - unfinished job. And if you stay - more American body bags, more Cindy Sheehans. Many more.

He is a loser now - no matter what he does.

Will there be calls for impeachment as the body count goes to 2,000? 3,000?

I don't believe Americans in 2005 are the sheep they were in 1968 or 1972 even. People were more willing to give the President the benefit of the doubt then - it was still pre-Watergate. Many protested, but I think many more may resist this time - much earlier.
