OT: >>>>Clearly the citizen was not as important as the government he came to serve<<<<<<

Oh yes to serve. I'm one that clings to the thinking government is there to serve me the voting public.
If one takes the oath of military service then your sworn to place the welfare of the nation, the Army, and your subordinates before your own. Under public oath of office one is sworn to uphold the Constitution and the amendments attached there too, those being The Bill of Rights. Under the pledge to the flag one pledges to be true to the USA, a government where the people chose who makes the laws, the belief in a higher power [God] and the liberty and justice [peace and fairness] for all. Each binds us to one another with the military oath taking further steps to affirm one shall give one's life if necessary.
Now some believe we have gone beyond the bindings of these oaths and the laws they affirm but until there is a consensus such is not the case. Under these very laws we are bound to uphold the bindings of the various oaths taken and vise versa. But, and this is the wonderful part, if we the people form a consensus which doesn't violate the basic laws of liberty and justice under the bill of rights. Then change is called for and in fact demanded. If government refuses under the laws previously established to limit governments intrusions. We the people can take matters in our own hands. Right up to the point of armed rebellion. So out of chaos can come order again under the very same laws set down my those blessed with foresight.
The recent episode of the use of eminent domain by the City of Lakewood in Ohio. If those home owners had taken up weapons then they would be at odds with the law and dealt with accordingly. Instead through their suffered we the people are going to have a chance to repeal such actions from taking place in the future. By changing those laws that allowed such an atrocities. It is cold comfort to those already impacted by what may very well be determined as unjust. But the system works, the issue is under review and the vote will make the final decision.
The great failing will be when people lose faith in the vote completely. Then social chaos will ensue and order will either be brought back through rational and peaceful processes or government will put a boot to the neck of the people and order will become slavery.
