Yes, of course you're right. And the longer the "war" goes on the less we're counting on conventional force and the more "other approaches" we're trying.

Unfortunately, a functioning democracy that protects the rights of women and minorities and serves as a shining example in the middle east will not be achieved by either conventional force or any "other approaches" in OUR power.

So if that is the "job" and if "finishing the job" constitutes victory, we will be defeated. Of course the scope and definition of the "job" has changed several times and may well change again.

Maybe we'll find a "job" that is done or doable, claim victory and leave. Ed
