John,

Listen, there are people that are really in trouble, good hard working Americans. In previous generations they would have done OK, been at least marginally middle class. Now they are getting killed by housing costs, medical costs, transportation costs. These are not bums, these are salt of the earth God fearing citizens.

There are certainly issues on both ends - earnings (disappearance of a lot of well paying manufacturing jobs) and expenses - many hidden costs in increases in costs of the very items you mentioned.

I don't know how to bring manufacturing jobs from China back, but there are certainly ways to figure out what makes housing, medical care and transportation more expensive.

If you are still fighting the "welfare queen" battle, you need to get past that. These people are the working poor, getting poorer. I know quite a few that work two jobs just to make ends meet. They have no choice.

Not at all. You said you imagine Chevy class job and pay. I said that would be nice, but realistically, only Yugo type job is better than being on welfare.

There is no question that income distribution is a problem. Not just for the working poor, but also for the rich. It's not sustainable (and it's not fair or democratic).

Ok, you go ahead and distribute the income, and I tell you that industries that you "distributed to" will be out of business or in China. I think you need to think more in terms of today's reality and how you get to where you want to go, without making things worse.

Joe
