One change in the tax code can pull tens of thousands out of poverty. Much more quickly than me giving away money to one person and then promoting myself. In fact, both Jesus (well, really Matthew, I think) and Maimonides said that people shouldn't trumpet their charity work. It should be a private thing. So that nixes that if you're "Judeo-Christian."
