I don't know about that.

Capital seeks profits and profits can be made from a company that develops and markets necessary drugs. Illnesses will be with us like death and taxes, and there will always be efforts to minimize their impact.

The Merck lesson, IMO, will be that pharmaceutical companies' corporate governance will change so that problems will be identified and corrected a lot more quickly, before they become a catastrophe like Vioxx.

If Merck had acted quickly instead of waiting years, I don't think it would have been hammered as badly as it was in a conservative jurisdiction.
